Sheri Rex Gates Field, 46, of Albany, Ga.. died November 15 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.
Sheri was the younger daughter of well known handler and Hall-of-Famer John Rex Gates.
Sheri was a native of Albany. She graduated from Deerfield High School in 1980. She attended Georgia Southwestern University where
she earned her nursing degree.
Mrs. Field worked with the open heart surgery team at St. Margarets Hospital in Montgomery, Ala., and then at Phoebe Putney Memorial
Hospitals emergency room. Later she worked as the Certified Occupational Nursing Specialist atMerck Chemicals for fifteen years,
then with Albany Arthritis and Orthopedic Center.
Mrs. Field is survived by her husband, Jeffrey Brian Field ofAlbany; a daughter, GloriaAnita Field of Tallahassee, Fla.; a son, John Evans
Johnson Field of Albany; her father, John Rex (Diane) Gates of Nashville, Ga.; her mother, Gloria Benson Gates of Montgomery, Ala.;
sister, Deborah Gates (Britt) Riles of Albany; niece, Christie Riles (Bradley) Riner of Statesboro; aunt, Sheila Gates Wheaton and her
husband John of Leesburg; uncle, Robert Clark Gates and his wife Mary Ann of Leesburg; special caregivers and cousins, Sunday
Wheaton Laramore of Leesburg, and MelodyWheaton Shenker of Albany; and a cousin, Robert Clark (Hunter) Gates, Jr. of Leesburg.
Funeral services were held November 18 at PorterfieldMemorial UnitedMethodist Church. Interment followed in Crown Hill Cemetery.
