NATIONAL AMATEUR FREE-FOR-ALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Union Springs, Ala.—The 50th anniversary of Johnny Capps’ first time attending the National Amateur Free-for-All was truly golden with his dreams of victory becoming reality. Jamback’s Sugar did an outstanding job for Capps handling the third course of the championship series as co-owner Dr. Ruben Richardson looked on. The snappy white and liver pointer had four finds and a back during the 90-minute finals. Bracemate Cox’s Arc Fault secured the No. 2 spot with four finds and two backs.

Along with the winners, the other dogs called back for the finals were Fibber’s Mudslinger, last year’s winner; top qualifying dog Josey Wales (Harvey Crosby), High Noon Sport (Shannon Nygard), It’s Only Money Honey (Fran Miller), Conecuh Station Fieldgate (Gibson), Bridges Lake Pat (Moore), Great River Magnum (Sanchez), Time Line Lane (Peterson),Western Union (Goodwin), Maple Sugar Nugget (Joyal), Trip Maker (Perry), Hardup Road Jessie (Moore), Panther Creek Snapshot (Rutland), Lester’s Golddigger (J. Miller).

The stake drew 52 pointers and 2 setters for judges Harold Ray of Waynesboro, Ga., and Pat Sheehan of Jacksonville, Ill.

SOUTHEASTERN OPEN SHOOTING DOG CHAMPIONSHIP

Leesburg, Ga.—The Southeastern Open Shooting Dog Championship concluded February 28 at Leesburg, Ga. Fifty-one dogs competed for the title.

Erin’s Dancing Queen, handled by Luke Eisenhart and owned by Tom Downs ofWest Grove, Pa., earned the title. Named runner-up was Covey Rise’s Offlee Amazin, handled by Shawn Kinkelaar and owned by Gary Hertz of Carson, N. D., and Drs. Thomas and Robin Morgan of Holly Springs, Miss.
